Packed house(s) for Tsilhqot’in fundraisers bring hope to the campaign to save Fish Lake

Many thanks to the individuals and businesses who came to hear the wonderful speakers and view the film presentation about the Tsilhqot’in Nation’s legal defence against Taseko Mines. Thanks to everyone who attended and donated to the Loonie-toonie raffle and the Silent Auction, we raised over $15,000 towards the legal challenge!

Particular thanks to  ‘I Roam the World’ for the 8-day river exploration trip. Thanks to Ethical Bean for the coffee service, and huge thanks to everyone who showed up, and everyone who donated in person and online.

In Vancouver, the WISE Hall was packed to the rafters thanks to our partners the Tsilhqot’in National Government (TNG), Union of BC Indian Chiefs, RAVEN, Wilderness Committee, Council of Canadians, and the Friends of Nemiah Valley (FONV).

Our stunning MC was RAVEN’s own executive director,  Susan Smitten. Appreciation and raised hands to Squamish Nation Chief Bill Williams for giving the Opening Prayer, and to speakers:

Xeni Gwet’in Chief Roger William

Yunesit’in Chief Russell Myers-Ross

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip

Jeremy Williams of Friends of Nemiah Valley shared his beautiful short film, STAND with the Tsilhqot’in.

In Victoria, the event was held at St John the Divine with partners TNG, RAVEN, Wilderness Committee – Victoria office, FONV, and Sierra Club. MC Susan Smitten kicked things off, introducing

speakers David Williams and FONV, Loretta Williams, Tsilhqot’in Councillor. The speakers were followed by a panel discussion and  Q&A with David, Loretta and JP Laplante, Mining, Oil and Gas Manager, TNG.

We warmly thank the volunteers who made this event such a success:  WC Volunteers – Rosemary & Maia and RAVEN Volunteers – Dana & Helena.

For your closing prayer and song we offer thanks and raised hands to Eric English.

The power of working together was expressed in song, words, and deeds during these two evenings. We still have a ways to go to reach our fundraising goal: please share this video and story with your friends and network. It’s so important that we stand with Indigenous land defenders at this moment in history. Thank you all for your commitment and your passion.
