Afloat with Heiltsuk Nation

Like you, we kicked off our shoes and did a little dance when restrictions on gathering outdoors in B.C. were eased. Suddenly, a vision we’ve been nurturing all year suddenly became possible.

We’ve been wondering: what’d happen if we brought together a crew of Indigenous leaders, salty sailors, visionary activists and first-class musicians?

This summer, we are going to find out!!

RAVEN is joining forces with sustainable eco-outfitters ecologyst to host an on-the-water, paddle-powered, family friendly floating festival. Ready for some spirited fun? Join us to be part of a series of floating concerts, and help raise funds and awareness for Indigenous-led legal challenges.

June is World Oceans Month. Fittingly, we’re dedicating our first concert to Heiltsuk Nation and raising funds for their legal challenge which, in the wake of the Nathan E. Stewart disaster, seeks  to enshrine Indigenous ocean stewardship values into law. If you’re on Salt Spring, get your ticket here, or tune in to watch the livestream on June 16 with Bill Henderson (Chilliwack, UHF) and Heiltsuk’s Megan Humchitt.

Our dream is to see floating solidarity shows launching all over the country.

“Festival Afloat” is a joyful way to  gather friends and community in celebration of the beautiful waters where you live, while supporting Indigenous sovereignty and environmental protection.
