Tar Sands Trial
Beaver Lake Cree Nation is taking on the tar sands – Canada’s fastest growing source of climate pollution. Already the largest industrial project on Earth, tar sands extraction has poisoned water, eliminated whole forests, and decimated traditional food sources for the Beaver Lake Cree people. The Beaver Lake Cree Nation is the first ever to challenge and be granted a trial on the cumulative impacts of industrial development.
1. To raise sufficient funds to fund Beaver Lake Cree’s legal challenges against the Tar Sands.
2. To change the law and force industrial projects to be evaluated based on cumulative impacts on treaty rights.
3. To provide access to justice and level the playing field so Beaver Lake Cree can stand toe-to-toe with government and industry in court.
