Annual Report is online
Our 2015 Annual Report is now online. We’re very proud of what we accomplished and want to share it with you. Last year was over the top! Combined with the incredibly successful Pull Together campaign, all of our Indigenous justice campaigns (now 6, including Core funding) moved forward. We gave out more than $950,000 to First Nations last year for legal defense!! We are still pinching ourselves.

Going forward, this year is big for Beaver Lake Cree Nation – which is preparing for trial and a date will be set soon. The lawyers tell us it may be set for as soon as Nov/Dec 2017. The Beaver Lake Cree Nation just launched 5 research projects needed for evidence – all due by September. And they have document discovery, oral evidence from elders, and mapping still to cover.
As well, this year we expect a judgment on the Pull Together hearings from Federal Court of Appeal – either way it goes, there will be leave sought for a Supreme Court of Canada hearing. The same goes for Treaty 8 First Nations’ legal actions to stop the Site C Dam.
And the Tsilhqot’in are back in court – to push back against Taseko Mines Ltd’s judicial reviews over the second rejection of the New Prosperity gold/copper mine. We’re waiting on court dates for that – will be later this year.
As always, we appreciate your support! RAVEN is now 7 – and looking ahead another 7 years, we hope to see some important legal precedents set that benefit First Nations for many more generations to come.
Thank you for all that you do for people, and the planet.
all the best,
Susan Smitten, Executive Director
