On August 21st, the Montreal community gathered at the Le Livart art gallery in support of Wet’suwet’en Nation. Though we didn’t gather on the water, it was still a part of our #FestivalAfloat concerts across Canada in support of Indigenous legal challenges!
The opening act was performed by guitarists Chris van Soest and Hugh Durnford-Dionne! Guitarist John Inder brought classical technique and rich harmonies to his 7-string archtop. Katie Paradis appeared on tenor and soprano sax. Richard McLeish on the upright bass with popular drum instructor Matt Higden laying down the rhythm. Sounds of Latin favourites and bluesy jazz filled the Le Livart Courtyard!
The Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs have launched two separate legal actions to defend their rights and title from unwanted industrial activity, and to hold the governments of Canada and British Columbia accountable to climate commitments for future generations.
