• Beaver Lake Cree’s game-changing Tar Sands Trial would enforce treaty rights in Canada’s dirty oil patch to set what could be the most important precedent for environmental protection in Canadian history
• In the wake of the Nathan E. Stewart disaster, Heiltsuk Nation is carrying out a unique Indigenous Environmental Assessment, marrying traditional knowledge with cutting edge science to protect the marine breadbasket that they have stewarded for millennia.
• After defeating Taseko Mines in the Supreme Court of Canada, Tsilhqot’in Nation is on track with a new legal action to ensure Teztan Biny/Nabaŝ area is protected from any further encroachment by mining.
• Wet’suwet’en are carrying on a legacy of Indigenous resistance with two potentially precedent-setting actions designed to disrupt a fossil fuel corridor in B.C.’s northwest
Though we have SO missed being able to gather in the streets and with our communities, this year has afforded us opportunities to join together online with people from coast to coast to coast, and with allies around the world. From our “We are Unfrackable” webinar series to wonderful musical livestreams with Dan Mangan, Luke Wallace, and the Wilds, we’ve kept the RAVEN fire lit. Necessity is the mother of invention: the energy you’ve brought to digital gatherings has nurtured the RAVEN family in times when we’ve all needed a sense of belonging and purpose.
