Auntie Kate and the Uncles of Funk celebrate RAVEN’s 8th birthday bash!

We’re so excited to welcome supporters friends and new RAVEN-ers to a birthday celebration at the Britannia Legion this Saturday April 1st! In true trickster fashion we are celebrating on April Fool’s.

We have so. much. to celebrate!! This year we had our first major victory with the scrapping of the Enbridge project, ensuring protection for the Great Bear Rainforest and B.C’s north and coast from oil tankers and pipelines. Legal fundraising works people!! We won’t stop until Indigenous nations have access to justice from coast to coast to coast but this milestone is a major feather in our collective cedar-woven cap.

We also raised $325,000 for the Site-C dam campaign with Treaty 8, helping the nations get to the Federal Court of Appeal. We have been steadily growing our support for Beaver Lake Cree vs. Alberta and Canada, the fight to stop Taseko Mines in Tsilhqot’in territory, and we relaunched Pull Together to stop Kinder Morgan’s pipeline and tanker project.

Two new campaigns are also underway : Wild For Salmon aims to defend the Skeena River from LNG proposals while Protect the Peel is a Supreme Court legal fundraiser which would see the preservation of a vast wilderness in the Yukon.

My community has expanded so much through all the gentle warriors who have made this fight their own. Thank you for standing with us. There is no force in this country that is stronger than the community we’ve built.”

Jess Housty, Councillor, Heiltsuk First Nation
