Can you spot what’s new on our website? We’re pretty excited about it!

Hint:  It’s just over there to the right, underneath the big picture of former Chief Lameman, between 1% and Gifts That Give.

RAVEN is now a participating charity in the incredible Aeroplan program that allows people to donate their miles so they can be used for things like flights, hotels, car rentals, even purchasing things.  In just over a week of being up and ‘live’ on the Beyond Miles site, donors have contributed more than 38,000 miles!  This is so heartening and we are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed.

The miles will be used very soon, as there are important dates coming for both of our major projects.  On March 22, 2013 the Beaver Lake Cree Chief and Council and their legal team must appear in Edmonton’s Court of Queen’s Bench for a meeting that could determine a court date for their landmark legal action.

And as early as April or May of 2013, the federal environmental review panel public hearings that will in part determine the fate of the Tsilhqot’in Nation’s sacred Fish Lake (Teztan Biny) will begin in Williams Lake, BC.  Experts will need to be flown in and put up in hotels, and the elders and members of the Xeni Gwet’in and Stony bands will need to travel from the valley they are trying to preserve into the city, and stay for the duration of the hearings.

So, thanks to our donors!  Your miles will be put to good use.  And as the Lorax likes to say, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”  Your miles will help to make things better.
