Denman Island Open Stage opened their doors and their hearts to Pull Together this Thursday, on the first stop of our Salish Sea Tour! In a cozy community hall with a wood stove blazing in the corner, the island community gathered together and shared their many talents.   Special guest Luke Wallace performed and hosted the evening, while a diverse set of talented performers–  pianists  poets, slide guitarists, fiddlers, humorists, drummers and musicians — raised the roof in a packed house.   Many of the performances spoke to the beauty of this coast and the absurdity of the politicians who threaten it.

A concession of decadent home-baked goods, awesome raffle prizes donated by Patagonia and Adbusters media foundation, and generous donations from the crowd of 80 people amounted to an astounding $904.20 raised for the Pull Together campaign! These funds will be doubled by an anonymous donor, and 100% of the proceed will go towards T’sleil-Waututh and Coldwater Nations’ legal challenges against the Kinder Morgan Pipeline.

A huge thanks to Michael Rapati of the Denman Arts Collective for welcoming us into the Open Stage event, to  Mary-Jane Stewart for organizing and baking up a storm with Sharon Clarke, and to Des Kennedy, Maxine Matilipi, and Brad Hornick and all the volunteers who helped make this fantastic event happen!
