Find out how you can act in solidarity with Indigenous land protectors ahead of the Land Defence Alliance March!

On September 21, Join lead lawyers for the allied Breathing Lands Nations who are going to court with a game-changing Treaty 9 rights challenge. Get the inside scoop on this strategic legal challenge that aims to restore sovereignty to Nations and enshrine caretaker values into law. The goal of the case is to restore Indigenous governance in Treaty 9 territories. With this lawsuit, an alliance of 10 Nations intend to restore the rightful Treaty relationship that was understood and agreed to by ancestral leaders.

Join Kate Kempton and Tara MacDonald from Woodward and Company, who, together with Breathing Lands Nations, are calling on everyone to pull together and fundraise, organize events, and donate so the Breathing Lands plaintiffs can access justice and meet the governments of Ontario and Canada at the decision-making table to protect their rights and territories.

This case would affirm the rights of Treaty 9 Nations to consent on projects that affect their ability to exercise Treaty rights to hunt, fish, and practice their culture on the lands and waters. A favourable decision in this case would also grant them the rights to issue an interim, interlocutory, and permanent injunctions to restrain Canada and Ontario from unilaterally accessing and exploiting lands and resources in the vast territories known as "Yehewi Aski" and "Bakitanaamowin Aki": the Breathing Lands.
