Pam Hrick
Pam Hrick is the Executive Director & General Counsel at LEAF. She provides leadership, expertise, support, and direction to LEAF’s work on litigation, law reform, and public education.
Pam joined LEAF from Stockwoods LLP, where she practiced law for several years. She previously clerked for the Hon. Justice Thomas A. Cromwell at the Supreme Court of Canada and the Hon. Justice David Stratas at the Federal Court of Appeal.
Pam has been an active volunteer in the legal community and broader community, including serving as the Chair of the Board of Management of The 519, a city organization that advocates for the inclusion of 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
Akosua Matthews
Akosua is an associate at Kastner Ko LLP, leading the firm’s state accountability work. Her practice includes civil litigation, public law, human rights claims, coroner’s inquests, and advising on policy and legislative matters.
Akosua has litigated in civil courts as well as a variety of administrative and private tribunals, including formal hearings before the United Church of Canada. Akosua has experience advising Indigenous communities and organizations on governance, rights, and justice issues, and has represented Indigenous parties in complex negotiations with the Crown. In 2018, Akosua was selected as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Canadian Lawyers
Jonathan Rudin
Jonathan Rudin received his LLB and LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School. In 1990 he was hired to establish Aboriginal Legal Services and has been with ALS ever since; currently he is the Special Projects Director. Mr Rudin has appeared before all levels of court, including representing ALS before the Supreme Court of Canada in R v Ipeelee (among many other cases).
At ALS he helped establish the Community Council—the first urban Aboriginal justice program in Canada in 1992, and in 2001 he helped establish the Gladue (Aboriginal Persons) Court at the Old City Hall Courts in Toronto.

RAVEN is hosting a CPD mini-conference in honour of National Indigenous Peoples’ Day with all proceeds going to our Intervenor Fund. This fund provides Indigenous nations and organizations with funding to facilitate intervening in cases of importance.
The mini-conference consists of 2 parts. The first session is on strategic litigation with a focus on interventions and the second on working with Indigenous clients.
Faculty for the 2 sessions include: Jonathan Rudin, founder and Special Projects Manager of Aboriginal Legal Services, Pam Hrick, Executive Director and General Counsel of LEAF, Akosua Matthews, Associate at Kastner Ko leading the firms state accountability practice, and Ruben Tillman, Associate at Ng Ariss Fong.
Jonathan and Akosua are speaking on the Working with Indigenous Clients portion, and Pam and Ruben on the Strategic Litigation portion.
