SUMMARY:Solastalgia: Addressing Climate Anxiety Through Community Building and Art-Making - Vancouver Session 1: Poetry and Prose Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join RAVEN\, in partnership with Urban Ink\, for the next instalments of our Solastalgia Community Event Series. This series has had so much interest and requests to host in other cities\, so to answer that call\, the next two sessions will be taking place in Vancouver\, B.C. \nThis chapter of the series will explore the theme of Ecosystems of Care. We’ll consider the relationships and practices within communities that sustain us through times of ecological and social change. Together\, we will reflect on how care flows between people\, land\, water\, more-than-human kin\, and future generations. And we’ll ask ourselves what it means to nurture resilience in an era of climate uncertainty. \nFor the first installment on August 16\, 2026\, we will be hosting a Solastalgia-themed poetry and prose workshop facilitated by natasha gauthier\, a mixed settler and reconnecting Indigenous multidisciplinary writer and visual artist. Through guided writing prompts\, reflection\, and discussion\, participants will explore their relationship to place\, climate change\, grief\, belonging\, and collective care. Whether you’re an experienced writer or simply curious about writing your thoughts out\, this workshop will offer a welcoming space to connect with others and express what it means to live in a changing world. \nThen\, on September 20\, 2026\, we’ll gather again to create a community chapbook featuring writing generated from the first workshop (and any other work that attendees may want to bring). Through hands-on creativity (think cut-and-paste-collage\, drawing\, and more)\, we’ll shape a collaborative chapbook that captures our stories\, concerns\, hopes\, and visions for thriving ecosystems of care. We will create one collaborative piece of work\, which RAVEN staff will take and produce copies to share with our wider community. \nYou do not need to attend the writing workshop to participate in the chapbook creation\, or vice versa. \nGet your tickets for the Poetry and Prose Workshop now. \nLocation: Jim Green House Studio\, 1885 Venables St\, Vancouver\, BC \nAccessibility: The Studio space is the lower level of the heritage home\, accessible from the ground floor. It is slightly elevated; however\, there is a ramp down from the main door. \nMeet the facilitator!\n \nnatasha gauthier is a mixed settler and reconnecting Indigenous multidisciplinary writer and visual artist. She is a graduate of UBC’s creative writing MFA program\, the former prose editor for Prism International\, and a current editorial board member at Room Magazine. Her writing has appeared in The Malahat Review\, The Capilano Review\, CV2\, and other literary magazines. In 2025\, she was longlisted for the CBC Poetry Prize. She is also a member of the art and literary collective\, Indigenous Brilliance.

DESCRIPTION:RAVEN’s next virtual book club will be discussing “The End of This World: Climate Justice in So-Called Canada” \nJoin RAVEN online via Zoom on November 12\, 2026 at 5pm PT (6pm MT\, 8pm ET) to discuss the book The End of This World: Climate Justice in So-Called Canada. The book features writing from many authors\, including Crystal Lameman\, the litigation representative for the Beaver Lake Cree Nation’s legal challenge that RAVEN supports. \n\n\n\nAbout the book: The climate crisis is here\, and the end of this world—a world built on land theft\, resource extraction\, and colonial genocide—is on the horizon. In this compelling roadmap to a livable future\, Indigenous sovereignty and climate justice go hand in hand. \nDrawing on their work in First Nations and Indigenous activism\, the labour movement\, youth climate campaigns\, community-engaged scholarship\, and independent journalism\, the six authors challenge toothless proposals and false solutions to show that a just transition from fossil fuels cannot succeed without the dismantling of settler capitalism in Canada.
