Great Ways to Give on #GivingTuesday!
Today is the second annual #GivingTuesday, a day for philanthropic giving after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And RAVEN is participating by offering one of our fabulous T-shirts, sporting the logo that was created for us by renowned T’sou-Ke artist Mark Gauti. Everyone who donates today will be entered in a draw for a tee! And all funds raised today will go to help Beaver Lake Cree Nation and the Tsilhqot’in Nation.
This image represents Raven in a Pacific Northwest coast natural setting of cedar trees and a river. The face in Raven’s belly represents the human connection to Raven and also the connection to all things that are natural. Many Pacific Northwest tribes view Raven as a trickster and tricksters are usually characters who will take on jobs that no one else will; these jobs will often facilitate change, which makes Raven a perfect symbol for groups or individuals who work on behalf of environmental or aboriginal rights.
Mark Gauti is an artist from the T’Sou-ke Nation, a Coast Salish Tribe who are on the border of Coast Salish territories and Nuu-chah-nulth territories. The T’Sou-ke share art and culture between the two different tribal groups. Mark strives to carry on the traditions of T’Sou-ke artists with the often overlooked and unique style that blends different tribal groups art together. Mark is also an environmental scientist who works for T’Sou-ke Nation and realizes the importance of groups such as RAVEN in helping to protect the natural ecosystems and traditional values that have always been sacred to Pacific Northwest Coast native people.
