October 1, 2014
For Immediate Release
Lekwungen/WSANEC territories, Victoria, BC: RAVEN (Respecting Aboriginal Values & Environmental Needs) is thrilled to announce it has received its largest 1% for the Planet donation to date from OnwardUp.
Based in Alberta, OnwardUp is an outdoor industry sales group that partners with the most innovative outdoor companies with a mutual commitment to inspire outdoor experiences and respect for the natural environment. OnwardUP has been a 1% member company since 2011. For more information on this generous company, visit www.OnwardUP.com.
“Partnering with 1% for the Planet was one of the most ethical and strategic moves we could make as a charity,” said Laurie MacKenzie, RAVEN’s Development Director. “RAVEN has a strong commitment to social justice, and we only accept donations from organizations that are in line with our values for environmental protection. We are grateful OnwardUP decided to partner with us to achieve our mutual goals.”
RAVEN raises legal defence funds to assist First Nations who enforce their rights and title to protect their traditional territories. Donations made to RAVEN support First Nations that are willing to stand up to government and industry in court to protect the environment. RAVEN currently supports nations opposing tar sands expansion, as well as pipeline and mine construction. Currently, Aboriginal and treaty rights are proving to be the strongest environmental laws in Canada.
