Pull Together Re-Launches with Mass Mobilization Call

Hello wonderful allies,

It was great to have so many of you on our mass organizing call — over 150 people signed up for what turned out to be a combined legal briefing and strategic overview. We know that, like all of us, you have a dose of deja vu about this whole project, but we hope that the optimism and confidence radiating from Rueben George, Catilyn Vernon and Eugene Kung helped strengthen your resolve.

On the call, organizers Maia and Andrea shared ways in which citizens like us can support Indigenous Nations in their legal fight to stop TransMountain.

Firstly of course we have an ambitious goal to raise $500k for the four Nations — Squamish, Coldwater, Secwepemc and Tsleil Waututh — who launched a set of judicial reviews aimed at quashing the approval of TMX.

To reach that goal, we are asking you to set up online fundraisers and organize events in your neighbourhood.

Step one — whether you plan to organize an event or not — is to set up your online fundraiser. Check out THIS PAGE on the Pull Together website for step-by-step instructions. The process is fast, easy, and effective: the average fundraiser brings in $800 for the campaign.

Step two — organize an event. If you put your hand up on the call, or if you sign up now using this form, Maia will be reaching out to you over the next weeks to say hello and find out what support you need to craft a great event.

Events can be single-day happenings, like Pints Not Pipelines, or neighbourhood fundraising drives where you engage local businesses in donating a portion of proceeds over the course of a week or a month. Get inspired by other great fundraising efforts here: https://pull-together.ca/events

As promised, here is a link to a Dropbox folder with organizer resources and an online fundraising guide. Please feel free to use any images, social media graphics, poster and flyer templates that you find.

Inspired by Indigenous leadership, we are going to fight this pipeline with energy, confidence and a dose of joy. We’re so glad you have come aboard and are looking forward to hearing your ideas, answering any questions you might have and providing you with resources and support for fundraisers both online and in your community.

As we heard from Rueben George and from the leaders of the Nations who launched legal challenges this week, the judicial reviews against the re-approval of TMX are as strong, if not stronger, than the ones that quashed the pipeline the first time around.

Please watch and share his inspiring message to organizers and supporters.

Not only are we being called to stand with First Nations, we’re being called to witness and amplify the voices of people who have been sidelined in the press and pushed aside by pro-pipeline politics. No matter what soundbites are repeated on the evening news, there is no way to build the TMX project if Indigenous Peoples are not properly consulted. There is ample evidence to show that consultation was piecemeal, hasty, and not carried out ‘in  good faith’.

It’s wonderful that you are taking part in Pull Together: The People vs. TMX. We are SO ready to take this campaign to the next level!

In solidarity,

Maia, Andrea + the Pull Together team
