On the call, Chief Dsta’Hyl  outlines a legal path forward for his people that involves pushing a groundbreaking climate challenge through the courts. The case has the potential to force any new project — be it fracked gas, mining, or tar sands — to be evaluated according to its climate impacts as part of the regulatory review process, even for projects that already have a permit. If Wet’suwet’en are successful in court, it will be a gamechanger for climate justice and will provide us with the tools we now lack to keep fossil fuel-emitting corporations in check.

The conversation, and participant questions, on this webinar were of a high calibre and show just how thoughtful and wide ranging this community’s concerns and knowledge are. As we all face a much more confined and constrained organizing environment, it is wonderful to be able to connect and strategize online and put solidarity with Indigenous Peoples into meaningful action.
