VIDEO: We Are Un-Frackable  – Webinar 1 With Adam Gagnon and Mike Sawyer

We learned a lot from our amazing guests on Friday’s “We Are UnFrackable” webinar. If you were able to join us, thank you for listening and sharing. If you missed hearing Wet’suwet’en hereditary chief Dsta’Hyl (Adam Gagnon) and Citizens’ Oil and Gas Council ED Michael Sawyer, you can watch a recording of the webinar here:

On the call, Chief Dsta’Hyl  outlines a legal path forward for his people that involves pushing a groundbreaking climate challenge through the courts. The case has the potential to force any new project — be it fracked gas, mining, or tar sands — to be evaluated according to its climate impacts as part of the regulatory review process, even for projects that already have a permit. If Wet’suwet’en are successful in court, it will be a gamechanger for climate justice and will provide us with the tools we now lack to keep fossil fuel-emitting corporations in check.

The conversation, and participant questions, on this webinar were of a high calibre and show just how thoughtful and wide ranging this community’s concerns and knowledge are. As we all face a much more confined and constrained organizing environment, it is wonderful to be able to connect and strategize online and put solidarity with Indigenous Peoples into meaningful action.

please mark your calendar for next week’s “We Are UnFrackable Webinar” with Wet’suwet’en legal counsel Richard Overstall. He’ll be joined by Kieran Oommen of Our Children’s Trust, a youth climate activist from Eugene, OR and one of the plaintiffs in the historic youth climate lawsuit which is taking on the fossil fuel industry in the US.
