RAVEN is ready to host our second floating concert of the season on Thursday, July 15! Our first attempt was derailed by “Junuary” rains but undaunted, we ride again. From a dock on Cusheon Lake, before an audience of folks in small watercraft & paddleboards, the wonderful Bill Henderson (Chilliwack, UHF, Order of Canada) is going to share a set of his gorgeous tunes. We couldn’t be more excited to also be inviting songstress Yael Wand to the (floating) stage.
Bring your canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard or rowboat to launch at the Cusheon Lake public boat access. The beach can be crowded and it’s summertime parking, so plan to arrive at 6:00 and go for a swim or paddle before the 6:30 pm start time. We’ll have facilitators helping load and unload canoes and direct traffic. Parking is limited along Cusheon Lake Road so if you can, team up with friends to share boats & carpool! Tickets are required for this event: do make sure to have yours in advance so you can review and sign our waiver and covid safety policy.
This promises to be a joyous community gathering. We are raising funds for Heiltsuk Nation’s “Step Up for Coast Heroes” campaign: the Nation is in the midst of a groundbreaking Indigenous Environmental Assessment project that pairs western science with traditional knowledge to uncover the full impacts of the Nathan E. Stewart disaster, while charting a way forward to restore ecosystem health. The legal challenge – with support from RAVEN – is part of that path, as the case aims to enshrine the caretaker values and stewardship plans of Heiltsuk Nation into law.
Can’t come? You can deepen this gathering’s impact with a tax-deductible donation : give now, and your contribution will be doubled.
Looking forward to a fun floating fundraiser with you!
