RAVEN works to raise funds to assist Indigenous Nations in having equitable access to the justice system.
RAVEN is not a granting organization; it is a fundraising organization. We do not outright award financial support to any Nation(s); instead, we form partnerships with Nations to jointly fundraise for legal costs.
Criteria for Selecting New Campaigns

Legal Precedent
The proposed legal action should ideally have the potential to set a legal precedent for future cases or advance legal rights and title of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. RAVEN’s legal Advisory Panel — a body composed of Aboriginal Law experts — screens every new application for this criterion.

Environmental Legacy
The proposed legal action, if successful, must create a significant, positive environmental impact for all individuals living in Canada. Examples include but are not limited to: contributing to slowing climate change, maintaining biological diversity, and/or improving or maintaining access to clean water and food security.

Feasibility
The fundraising goal must be achievable given the organizational capacity of RAVEN.

Community Support
The application must be authorized by the Nation leadership.

Joint Fundraising Protocol
The Nation(s) requesting funding must agree to work with RAVEN staff collaboratively to fundraise.

RAVEN has limited capacity and carefully considers each potential partnership in relation to our strategic priorities, current commitments, and ability to support the fundraising effort. While meeting the application criteria is an important part of the process, it does not guarantee that RAVEN will be able to accept a project. RAVEN reserves the right to decline any project proposal where it is not aligned with our strategic direction or where our capacity does not allow us to support the campaign effectively.
