Prosperity panel wants more information from Taseko – Williams Lake Tribune – June 25, 2009

Good news for those of us concerned with the proposed mine!

On Wednesday, June 24th the federal Review Panel announced that Taseko must address deficiencies in their Environmental Impact Statement before the Panel will schedule dates for the hearings. Once Taseko has provided that information there will be another public comment period and then the Panel will again have to decide whether to proceed or if they need more information. This cycle will repeat itself until the Panel is satisfied that there is enough information to proceed to hearings.

In the meantime, Friends of the Nemaiah Valley will be working with economics expert Dr. Marvin Shaffer to conduct a more comprehensive assessment of the net benefits and costs of this proposed project. The Review Panel is requiring Taseko to provide more information about their alternatives assessment including material on costing and the economic feasibility of other options, the factors considered in their alternatives assessment and the financial security of the project. Dr. Shaffer’s expertise will be able to provide an important critique of this information.
