Solastalgia: Addressing Climate Anxiety through Community Building and Art-Making — Session 1: Zine Making

Join RAVEN for the first in a two-part summer series where we will be coming together to discuss our climate anxieties (and potential actions to take to address them) through community building and art-making. 

This hands-on zine-making workshop will offer an opportunity to express some of our fears, ideas, and dreams when it comes to a more just and liveable future. Weaving in ideas of how we can connect across differences and take action as individuals and as a community, from diverting personal waste to showing up in solidarity with Indigenous rights movements, we will discuss a multitude of ways we can all participate in re-imagining the future. We will sip tea, share stories, and make space for creativity and connection to see what can bloom from an afternoon together.

Throughout the session, participants will be invited to record audio reflections on the theme of the day — whether it’s personal climate grief, dreams for a better future, or the art that emerges during the workshop.

Location: Little Fernwood Gallery, Victoria, B.C.

Date and Time: July 20, 2025, from 10 am – 1 pm

What to expect — (note, you do not have to stay for the entire time – you can drop in and out through the event):

• 10:00: doors, tea, coffee, snacks made available
• 10:30: Introduction to activity, writing and art prompts, orientation to the space and materials and history of zine making/how we hope to use it
• 10:40-12:30 – Zine making, open conversation, open recording booth
• 12:30-12:45 – closing thoughts
• 12:45-1:15 – clean up and goodbyes
