It’s been a week of astonishing generosity: hundreds of donors from around the world have pitched in to support Unist’ot’en as they go to court to defend traditional Wet’suwet’en territory. Now, as we reach an amazing $50,000 milestone, a new matching funds donor has come forward. This donation will allow RAVEN to match donations and raise our fundraising goal to $100k.
This new pledge, which will match every dollar that comes in through our crowdfunding page dollar for dollar, will allow RAVEN to make sure the whole Unist’ot’en case against Coast Gas Link will be absolutely covered by donations, so Indigenous Peoples don’t have to spend funds meant for community development on costly litigation. Unist’ot’en’s resources have been depleted due to RCMP actions and arrests made back in January 2019: the cost to defend community members detained while defending their land have been high, and are ongoing.
