RAVEN is calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to apologize for his disrespectful remarks to Grassy Narrows First Nation member Chrissy Isaacs. He has now become the second Prime Minister in a row to belittle the situation facing Grassy Narrows and Wabaseemoong First Nation as they grapple with decades-long mercury pollution to their lands and waters. Studies show Grassy Narrows’ fish are still the most mercury contaminated in all of Ontario.

“An apology won’t clean up polluted waters, restore food systems or heal the land, but it would be an important acknowledgement that the Canadian government’s attitude and actions needs to change. Despite 90% of tested Grassy Narrows members experiencing symptoms of mercury poisoning, the government has still not cleaned up the river system. Instead of insulting community members, the Prime Minister needs to finally address their concerns and put an end to decades of injustice.”
