General description of the position:

The Campaigns Specialist is an experienced practitioner responsible for designing and executing advocacy campaigns in partnership with Indigenous Nations to advance environmental and social justice. This role bridges strategy and implementation—leading campaign planning, shaping public narratives, supporting litigation strategies, and mobilizing public and political pressure.

Working directly with the Campaigns Director, the Campaign Specialist plays a central role in advancing campaigns from early-stage strategy through to execution. The position requires strong experience in advocacy campaigning, public engagement, and relationship-building with Indigenous partners.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision into action.
  • Relationship-building grounded in respect, accountability, and cultural awareness.
  • Lived experience or demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous Peoples’ rights and issues, including the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Initiative and sound judgment in complex, evolving campaign environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Ability to balance autonomy with collaboration in a remote team.


Desired experience & qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in progressive advocacy campaigns or related fields. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous Nations and Peoples.
  • Proven ability to design and execute advocacy campaigns that drive public impact.
  • Strong understanding of media and public narrative development.
  • Experience engaging with civil society and movement partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, able to manage multiple priorities.


Compensation

$72,819 – $80,398 based on experience

Working Conditions

  • This is a remote position, with some travel required, including to Indigenous communities and RAVEN’s office located in Victoria, BC.
  • This position involves working mainly indoors and may also involve work at events which may be outdoors or at other venues, or work after hours or on weekends. 
  • Full-time employment is 35 hours per week.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment such as computers, chairs, or comparable items up to fifteen (15) kilograms may be required. 
  • Extended periods working at a computer may be expected.

Primary tasks and areas of responsibility

1. Campaign Strategy & Execution

  • Lead the development and implementation of integrated campaign strategies in partnership with Indigenous Nations and the Campaigns Director.
  • Translate legal cases and advocacy goals into public-facing campaigns that build awareness, shift narratives, and generate pressure for change.
  • Design and execute campaign tactics across multiple channels, including public engagement, media, digital, and in-person.
  • Track campaign progress, evaluate impact, and adapt strategies in response to changing conditions.
  • Identify and engage key audiences, supporters, and communities to grow campaign reach and participation.
  • Build and sustain relationships with civil society and movement partners to strengthen campaign impact.

2. Indigenous Partnerships & Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with partner Nations, grounded in cultural awareness and reciprocity.
  • Support Nations in advancing their goals in alignment with their priorities and leadership.
  • Participate in regular meetings with Nations and attend community events, legal proceedings, and gatherings as appropriate.
  • Ensure all campaign activities reflect the rights, aspirations and protocols of RAVEN partner Nations. 

3. Litigation Support

  • Integrate partner Nations’ legal strategy into broader advocacy campaigns, ensuring alignment between litigation and public engagement.
  • Support the coordination and tracking of litigation-related activities, including financial disbursements and case developments.
  • Attend hearings and legal proceedings where appropriate, summarizing key developments for internal and external audiences
  • Translate legal updates into campaign opportunities and public campaign materials.

4. Campaign Operations & Coordination

  • Manage day-to-day campaign implementation, including timelines, workflows, and internal coordination with other departments.
  • Support administration of campaign budgets, disbursements, and reporting in collaboration with the Campaigns Director.
  • Contribute to organizational planning and cross-departmental collaboration.

5. Media, Narrative & Communications

  • Shape compelling public narratives that translate complex legal and policy issues into accessible, engaging content.
  • Collaborate with Communications staff to develop campaign messaging, media strategies, and content (e.g. blogs, op-eds, social media).
  • Contribute to narrative strategy advancing Indigenous rights and environmental justice.
